Education
The Gloucestershire Energy from Waste Facility is committed to delivering educational programmes to the local community. The Facility provides insight and education into the energy from waste process and the 4Rs of waste: reuse, reduce, recycle and recovery.
The Education and Visitor Centre provides a venue for schools, colleges, community and other interest groups to meet and learn about sustainable waste management and resource use, with access to a working Facility. Visitors can see engineering and technology at work and the treatment of residual waste (materials which aren’t easily recycled) which is used to generate electricity.
The Facility also teaches the small changes that households can implement to become more environmentally friendly and sustainable.

The Key Stage 1 and 2 lesson plans have been designed to be fun, informative, and linked to the National Curriculum:
Key Stage 1’s ‘Marvellous Metals’ lesson covers what materials items are made from, what it means to recycle, and why we should be recycling.
Key Stage 2’s ‘Properties and Changes of Materials’ lesson covers recyclable and non-recyclable materials and their properties and uses, what effect recycling has on materials and how much energy it takes to produce a recycled item compared to a new item, and how the treatment of some materials result in the formation of a new material.
